asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether there is available in his Department an estimate of the number of towns and villages throughout Saorstát Eireann which require a water and sewerage system; whether he will state the number of such schemes submitted for the approval of his Department, the number approved and the number on which work has commenced.

As regards the first part of the question, a preliminary survey has been made, but full particulars are not yet available. As regards the latter part of the question, 37 schemes in rural areas and 19 schemes in urban areas have been approved in the present financial year and are in progress.
