Vol. 56 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Selection Boards.

asked the President whether he has been requested to prepare a new panel of persons to serve on Selection Boards appointed by the Local Appointments Commissioners; and, if so, whether he intends to take any action in regard to the matter.

The selection of Boards to interview candidates for local appointments is entirely at the discretion of the Local Appointments Commissioners, who, I understand, have received no request to prepare a new list of persons to serve on such Boards.

I am informed that the lists of persons from which panels are prepared embrace every category of profession, qualification and experience necessary for the various posts to be filled, that these lists are kept constantly under review and that additions are made to them from time to time.

I may add for the Deputy's information that when a Board is required, a panel of names drawn from the existing lists is submitted to the Commissioners by their secretary. The Commissioners may either select the Board from the panel or go outside it if they so desire.

Is the President aware that the selections were made three or four years ago and no member of a public board has been asked to take his place on a Selection Board since?

My information is that they are reviewed from time to time and that additions are constantly being made.
