Vol. 56 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bounty on Salmon.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has received a resolution from the Limerick Board of Fishery Conservators asking for a bounty on salmon on account of the failure of the Shannon fishing this year, which is attributed to the Hydro-Electric Scheme, and also in view of the fact that salmon is 9d. per lb. less than last year, and, if so, if he is prepared to give such a bounty.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Lands (for Minister for Agriculture)

A copy of the resolution referred to has been received by me. I am not, however, satisfied that either as regards relevancy or merits a case has been made for payment of a bounty on salmon exported, and I cannot hold out any hope of such being granted.
