Vol. 56 No. 6

Committee on Finance. - Vote 39—Public Record Office.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £3,154 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1936, chun Tuaratail agus Costaisí Oifig na nAnnálacha Puiblí agus Coimeádaí na Stát-Pháipéar, Baile Atha Cliath. (30 agus 31 Vict., c. 70; 38 agus 39 Vict., c. 59, agus 39 agus 40 Vict., c. 58).

That a sum not exceeding £3,154 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1936 for the Salaries and Expenses of the Public Record Office, and of the Keeper of State Papers, Dublin. (30 and 31 Vict., c. 70; 38 and 39 Vict., c. 59, and 39 and 40 Vict., c. 58).

There is a very small sum of £79 provided in this Vote for the purchase of historical documents. I submit that you will not get valuable historical documents for an expenditure of £79 and I think the Minister ought to see that that amount will be increased.

Since the Public Record Office was destroyed has there been any catalogue prepared to show what remains or were recovered from the ruins? Certain documents, or fragments of documents, were recovered, and I should like to know have these been catalogued, or is there any place where we can ascertain what remnants are left of the public records of the State?

I understand that the annual reports disclose particulars of these documents. There is an annual report issued by the Public Records Office which gives the only information we can give about these documents.

Question put and agreed to.
