Vol. 57 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reclamation of County Clare Bay.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a scheme for the reclamation of Poulnasherry Bay, near Kilrush, County Clare, has been under consideration by the Office of Public Works; and, if so, if he will state if and when it is proposed to proceed with this scheme.

The scheme is one of a number of reclamation schemes which have received consideration by the Office of Public Works in connection with the allocation of relief funds. Sufficient information is available to indicate that the proposed work would involve expenditure altogether in excess of the relief allocation available for the area. In addition, it is not clear that the benefits to be derived would be commensurate with the expenditure. For these reasons it is not proposed to proceed with the scheme at least for the present.
