Vol. 59 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral—Answers. - Excise Duty on Cotton Ply Yarns.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount and value of the ply yarns wholly of cotton which were so held in the Free State at midnight on the 31st day of July, 1935, as to become liable to the Excise duty of 40 per cent. imposed by Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 70) Order, 1935, and the total amount of such Excise duty collected (a) on the 1st day of August, 1935; and (b) the total amount collected since the 1st day of August, 1935.

The total value of the goods in question was £10,975 11s. 5d. None of the duty thereon was collected on the 1st of August, 1935; the full duty, viz., £4,390 4s. 6d., has been collected since that date. No record of the amount of the goods has been kept for Revenue purposes.

Will the Minister say if a further amount of duty still remains to be collected on these articles?

No, the full amount of the duty has been paid.
