Vol. 59 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Relief Grants.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of the Relief Grant to be allotted to the Dublin Port and Docks Board, also the amount to be allotted to the Dublin Corporation; and if he is aware that both of these bodies have agreed to pay, from their own funds, the cost of materials to be used in any work undertaken.

No definite proposals for relief schemes have been received from the Dublin Port and Docks Board. A grant of £17,000 has been sanctioned from the current Relief Vote for various relief schemes put forward by the Dublin Corporation and towards which the corporation will contribute a sum of £7,500.

If the Port and Docks Board put forward schemes to the Minister, will be give them a grant?

That will depend on the nature of the schemes.

Will the Minister ask his colleague whether he has not informed the Port and Docks Board within the last 24 hours that no grant will be available to any body but the Dublin Corporation?

I have no reason to believe that the Deputy's statement is correct.

Will the Minister not ask the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has informed the Port and Docks Board that no grant will be available for works they are putting forward?

Has the Minister any reason to believe that the Deputy's statement is incorrect?

That is another question.

The Minister's doubt could easily be set at rest by asking the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in a telephone conversation with the secretary of the Port and Docks Board, he informed him that no grant will be available for their work.

I have not been informed that any schemes have been put up by the Dublin Port and Docks Board.

If a scheme is put up will the Minister consider it?

I have already replied to that question and stated that that will depend on the nature of the scheme.
