Vol. 60 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Victuallers and State Marketing

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has given further attention to the desirability of introducing proposals for legislation for the purpose of making it obligatory on all victuallers to buy their supplies of fat cattle through a State Marketing organisation.

I would refer the Deputy to the provision contained in Section 10 of the Slaughter of Cattle and Sheep (Amendment) Act, 1935, whereby the Minister is empowered to serve on any particular registered proprietor a notice prohibiting such registered proprietor from purchasing or other wise acquiring any cattle or sheep from any person except an officer of the Minister authorised in that behalf by the Minister.
