Vol. 60 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of Clerk of Works.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention was directed to an advertisement regarding the appointment of a clerk of works published in the Press on 21st February by the Dublin Board of Public Health; whether he is aware that it is announced in the advertisement that the person appointed must possess a University degree in engineering as one of the essential qualifications for the post; whether there is any regulation of his Department requiring the appointment as clerks of works of persons possessing a University degree in engineering and, if not, whether it is his intention to sanction the proposal of the Dublin Board of Public Health to limit to University graduates the selection of candidates for this post and if he will state on what grounds the decision to do so is based.

My attention has been directed to the advertisement in question, and I have instructed the Dublin Board of Public Health to readvertise the position so that applications from the classes of persons eligible for employment as clerks of works as set out in Article 48 (2) of the Labourers (Ireland) Order, 1912, may be invited.
