Vol. 61 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bowen Estate (Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the name of the migrant to whom the herd's house and out-offices attached thereto situate on the farm of Coolabawn (Bowen Estate) in the County of Mayo, were allotted, and the acreage of the holding allotted to the said migrant, together with the said house and out-offices, and whether the said migrant has as yet taken up possession thereof.

The herd's house and out-offices attached there to situate on the resumed holding of J. J. Hession in the townland of Coolaghbaun on the Bowen estate have not been allotted to a migrant. The buildings in question are situate on an accommodation plot allotted to Dr. T.J. Flannery and comprise thatched one-storey dwelling house in bad condition, at present occupied by the herd, and two small out offices with galvanised iron roofs. A new house and out-office are being erected by the Land Commission on the holding allotted to the herd and on their completion the old house will be demolished.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary why I was informed a short time ago that the house had been allotted to a migrant?

Evidently the Minister for Justice, who was deputising for the Minister for Lands, in my absence, confused the herd's house with the other one.

Was there not a statement on the file? I take it that the Minister for Justice would not make any statement beyond what was on the file before him—that it was allotted to a migrant. May I ask why this House is deceived by these answers?
