Vol. 61 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Suspension of Unemployment Assistance Benefit.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of persons at Dublin and at each other Employment Exchange in receipt of unemployment assistance benefit whose benefit has been suspended in each week since the 1st January last whilst still unemployed; the number of such persons who appealed against such suspension to the Court of Referees; the number of appeals decided in favour of the applicants, the number decided against the applicants, and the number of appeals still pending.

Particulars are not kept which will enable the information for which the Deputy asks to be furnished in the form in which he requests it. I am, however, sending the Deputy a statement giving the fullest particulars available.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I should like to know if the Minister will include the information in the Official Debates.

I did not propose to do that. It is a very long statement and would take up a very large amount of space in the official record.

I think it would be to the advantage of every member of the House if he could get the information asked for by Deputy Norton, and I think that the simplest way of supplying that information would be to circulate it in the Official Debates. I, at any rate, would like to have the information.

I shall have the matter considered.
