Vol. 61 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Oranges.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of registered importers of oranges who have made application for licences to import oranges during the Third Quota period; how many of the 160,800 cwts. allotted as the Spanish quota have been so licensed for import; the number of registered importers who have received those licences, and the (1) highest, (2) second highest, (3) third highest quantity consigned to any one registered importer.

The number of registered importers who made application for licences to import oranges during the Third Quota Period was 158. Of the 160,800 cwts, allotted as Spanish quota, 160,678 cwts. have been licensed for import. Licences for the importation of oranges forming part of the Special Quota allotted to Spain were issued to 102 registered importers. With regard to the last part of the Deputy's question, I am not prepared to give information which would amount to a disclosure of the trading figures of particular importers.
