Vol. 61 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clare Estate Sporting Rights.

Mr. Hogan

(Clare) asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of the Blake estate, near Spiddal, County Galway, whether the fishing and sporting rights formerly held by the landlord have yet vested, and in what position the Irish Land Commission is now in in respect of these fishing and sporting rights.

The solicitors for the owner state that the entire fishing and shooting rights over the lands, rivers and lakes on the estate of A.A.J. Blake, County Galway, Record No. S.5767, with the exception of the townlands of Knock and Park, were sold by the landlord to Mr. Michael B. Wallace in 1923 and the Land Commission are advised that in the circumstances the shooting and fishing rights did not vest in the Land Commission on the appointed day.

Mr. Hogan

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if the tenants, when the land was vested in them by the Land Commission, were under the impression that the rights, fishing and sporting, would vest in the Land Commission?

I have no evidence as to what was the impression in the minds of the tenants at the time.
