Vol. 61 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Borough Surveyorship.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the Dublin Corporation has expressed a desire to fill by the promotion of one of its existing engineers the vacant position of borough surveyor and waterworks engineer; whether he has declined to approve of this arrangement; and, if so, whether in view of the fact that there are in the employment of the corporation 16 qualified engineers, he will state the grounds on which his decision is based; and, further, whether it is the settled policy of his Department to depart from the well-established principle of promotion in such responsible services as the Dublin Corporation; and, if not, why has he done so in the present case.

The answers to the first and second parts of the question are in the affirmative. It is essential that the field of selection should not be unduly restricted.
