Vol. 61 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Illegal Inshore Trawling.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that five British steam trawlers were fishing well within the three miles' limit right through the week, 5th to 12th April, off the coast of Kilmore, County Wexford, and if any steps will be taken by his Department to stop this constant invasion of these inshore fishing grounds.

Dr. Ryan

Reports reached my Department that fishing vessels, believed to be British steam trawlers, had been observed to be operating, apparently within our exclusive fishery limits, at times between the dates mentioned, and in the area referred to in the question. I am doing everything possible, with the means at my disposal, to deal with the matter. The fishery cruiser patrolled that area very recently and will return there as soon as possible.
