Vol. 61 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Municipal Affairs.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether it is his intention before the Dublin Corporation elections in June to introduce proposals for amending the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930; whether he proposes to withdraw the autocratic powers now enjoyed by the City Manager, and confer on the elected representatives of the city the power to administer the affairs of the city, and whether it is his intention to indicate to the public, without delay, the measures which will be introduced to enable the new city council to enter upon their duties without interference with their discretion in the administration of municipal affairs.

Proposals to amend the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930, by abolishing the council-manager plan of city government are not in contemplation.

Does the Minister propose to take any steps to give back to the elected representatives of the people the powers formerly resided in them—such as the controlling and directing of the affairs of the city council?

Can the Minister say when it is proposed to give back these powers?
