Vol. 63 No. 11

Death of Deputy P. Hogan, Galway.

Members of the Dáil have, no doubt, all heard of the tragic death of Deputy Patrick Hogan, former Minister for Agriculture. Many of us differed profoundly from Deputy Hogan on matters of public policy, but I am sure that there is no member of the Dáil who did not admire his courage and frankness in stating his views, his energy as an administrator, and his rare effectiveness in debate. His death is a loss not merely to his own Party, but to the House and to Irish public life. Naturally, our thoughts turn to those who will feel his loss most keenly, to his widow, his children, and the other members of his family. I ask you, A Chinn Comhairle, to assure them of the deep sympathy of Dáil Eireann in their bitter sorrow.

Deputies rose in their places.
