asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state in respect of the insurance years 1933/34, 1934/35 and 1935/36 (a) the number of unemployment books exchanged, (b) the number of unemployment books issued, and (c) the total number of employment books current.

In regard to the figures required in respect of the insurance years 1933/34 and 1934/35, I would refer the Deputy to the particulars circulated with the official report on 6th February, 1936, in reply to a question asked by Deputy Norton.
The particulars for the insurance year ended 4th October, 1936, were as follows:—
(a) the number of unemployment books exchanged was 355,246.
(b) the number of unemployment books issued was £56,172, and
(c) the total number of unemployment books current was 411,418.
These figures are preliminary and subject to revision.
