Vol. 64 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alien Penetration in Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if he has received a preliminary report on alien penetration in industry from the National Manufacturers' Council, and, if so, if he will make the report available to Deputies by placing a copy in the Library.

I assume that the Deputy refers to certain representations which have recently been made by the Council of the National Agricultural and Industrial Development Association to my Department suggesting certain amendments of the Control of Manufactures Acts. These are at present under examination and will be given due consideration in the ordinary way. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.

I refer to a statement made in the Press that a report from the National Manufacturers' Council on alien penetration in Irish industry had been submitted to the Minister. Do I understand that no such report has been submitted?

I have no document which could be properly described as a report. I received certain representations suggesting certain amendments of the Acts referred to.

Did the Minister receive no information giving specific instances of alien penetration in Irish industry?

The answer to that is in the affirmative.
