Vol. 65 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Irish and Danish Butter.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the records of his Department show that Irish butter ever fetched as high or a higher price than Danish butter on the British market; and, if so, on what date or dates did this occur.

The records kept in my Department do not contain an exhaustive list of the dates on which the price of Irish butter on the British market was as high as, or higher than, that of Danish. Recent occasions on which Irish butter was sold on the British market at about the same price as Danish were in June and August, 1932, September and October, 1933, and June, 1936.

Is the Minister in a position to say that on one occasion, at least, Irish butter secured a better price on the British market than did Danish butter at the same time?

Dr. Ryan

I cannot really say, but it is quite possible that for a few days during this period that position did exist.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, will he inform the House of the price of Irish butter in Valencia?

Dr. Ryan

It is not quoted.

The Deputy should ask Franco.
