Vol. 65 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Banagher Water Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the date on which the completed plans and estimates were submitted to his Department for the provision of a water scheme for the town of Banagher, Offaly; and if and when same were sanctioned, and what is the amount of the grant sanctioned by the Minister for Finance for the carrying out of this work.

The documents relating to a proposed waterworks scheme for Banagher were submitted to this Department in August, 1936. The plans were not complete. Certain amendments were recommended. On the 11th November the board requested a local inquiry into the scheme. The inquiry was arranged for 9th December and adjourned at the board's request to 11th January. At the inquiry the board's representatives referred to the desirability of providing in the scheme for a supply of water to the neighbouring village of Cloghan. On the 17th instant the board were informed that in view of this new proposal the scheme would have to be further investigated by their engineer. Until these investigations are completed and revised plans submitted no grant can be allocated for the carrying out of the work.
