Vol. 65 No. 7

Night Employment of Women.

I move:—

"That Dáil Eireann approves of the convention concerning employment of women during the night (revised 1934), adopted by the International Labour Conference at its Eighteenth Session, a copy of which was laid on the Table of the Dáil on 7th May, 1935, and recommends the Executive Council to take the necessary steps for its ratification."

This asks the Dáil to approve of the convention concerning the employment of women during the night. It was revised in 1934 and adopted by the International Labour Conference at its Eighteenth Session, and this motion recommends the Executive Council to take the necessary steps for its ratification. The convention concerning the employment of women during the night was adopted many years ago and ratified by the Saorstát. It was amended in 1934 for the purpose of excluding from its scope women employed in a managerial capacity or otherwise than by way of manual work. As the existing law in the Saorstát is in conformity with the revised convention, we propose to ratify the revised convention, and we ask the Dáil to approve. The ratification involves no change in the law.

What is the extent of the revision?

It excludes women employed in a managerial capacity.

Question agreed to.
