Vol. 65 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Scotch Seed Oats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will accede to the wishes of the farmers of Cavan and Monaghan by facilitating them in the importation of a sufficient quantity of Scotch seed oats by granting the necessary licence in time to have it sown.

Dr. Ryan

Licences for the importation of seed oats are issued only in respect of pure-line or pedigree seed imported by individual growers. Ample supplies of seed oats of at least as good quality as ordinary Scotch oats are obtainable in the Saorstát. I am not, therefore, prepared to consider applications for the importation of ordinary Scotch seed.
