Vol. 65 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcast Talks in Irish.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that it has been the practice to pay for broadcast talks in Irish at less than half the rate per unit of broadcasting time paid for similar talks in English by the same speakers or by speakers of similar qualifications, and whether in view of the extra difficulties which arise in preparing talks in Irish, particularly on subjects involving the use of semi-technical terms, he will not arrange that the rates paid for Irish talks shall normally be higher than those paid for talks of a like standard in English.

Broadcast talks in Irish and English are paid for at similar rates. There is no case for higher payment for talks in Irish than for talks in English of a corresponding character.
