Vol. 66 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imperial Conference and Partition.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether, in default of attendance at the forthcoming Imperial Conference he will make a written communication to that body on the subject of partition and in particular of the continued incorporation in Northern Ireland of counties that desire to join the Irish Free State.

The Deputy must remember that the Imperial Conference is a purely consultative body, the resolutions of which have no binding force. The members of the Commonwealth are already aware of the attitude of the majority of our people towards partition. Partition was created by a British law, and the solution of the problem must depend ultimately on the attitude of the British Government.
