Vol. 66 No. 4

Committee on Finance. - Vote 22—Stationery and Printing.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £83,428 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1938, chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí Oifig an tSoláthair; chun Páipéarachais, Clódóireachta, Páipéir, Greamuíochta agus Leabhra Clóbhuailte i gcóir na Seirbhíse Puiblí; agus chun Ilsheirbhisí Ilghnéitheacha maraon le Tuairiscí Díospóireachtaí an Oireachtais.

That a sum not exceeding £83,428 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1938, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Stationery Office; for Stationery, Printing Paper, Binding, and Printed Books for the Public Service; and for Sundry Miscellaneous Services, including Reports of Oireachtas Debates.

The net provision of £136,428 shows a decrease of £1,082 on the total provision made last year. The variations under the different sub-heads of this Vote this year are comparatively small and do not, I think, need specific explanations. The very marked increase in Stationery Office expenditure in recent years is attributable to the growth of legislation and development under the various heads of State activity. The Stationery Office, in addition to the large increase in expenditure in printing and paper and binding arising out of the actual passing of this legislation, had to incur comparatively heavy outlay on equipment in office supplies, etc., to meet the growing needs of State Departments. It is hoped, however, that the end of the equipment period has now been reached, and that it will be possible to effect the savings anticipated in the current year.

Vote put and agreed to.
