Vol. 66 No. 9

Written Answers. - Housing in Saorstát Counties.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of dwellinghouses, dwellinghouses and out-offices, and out-offices, erected in each county in the Saorstát for the years 1922-23 to 1936-37, inclusive.

Mr. Boland

The information in the general form asked for by the Deputy is not available in the Department of Lands. Building work is undertaken by the Land Commission mainly in connection with the division of untenanted land but, in addition, assistance in the form of loans and grants is given to approved applicants by various Departments, including the Land Commission, the housing (Gaeltacht) branch of the Department of Lands, and the Department of Local Government, for the erection of buildings by themselves. Loans for building may also be obtained from the Agricultural Credit Corporation and the county councils.

As regards building operations by the Department of Lands, statistics are not kept in the form specified in the question, but returns are being compiled showing such particulars as are available. These returns will be supplied to the Deputy as soon as they are completed.
