Vol. 69 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hacketstown Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether representations were made to him concerning the water supply at Hacketstown, County Carlow; whether it has been brought to his notice that the medical officer of health has reported unfavourably on the water supply in that town, and that, in fact, the water available in the town is unfit for human use; whether he will state if he has taken any steps, and, if so, what steps, to ensure that an efficient and suitable water supply will be made available for the 500 inhabitants of Hacketstown.

As regards the first and second parts of the question, I have not yet received any recent representations concerning the water supply to Hacketstown. A recent report of the Department's medical inspector drew attention to the need for the improvement of the water supply, and the attention of the board of health was drawn to the matter. At their meeting on the 23rd August last, the board stated that the water supply at Hacketstown was engaging attention. I understand that they received in January last a report from their consulting engineer on the provision of a water supply for Hacketstown.
