Vol. 69 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation in County Cork.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if it is proposed to take over for afforestation purposes the 4,000 acres of land available in the vicinity of the town of Fermoy and thereby relieve the conditions of acute unemployment in the neighbourhood.

Mr. Boland

The Department have now completed the acquisition for forestry purposes of an area of 990 acres on the estate of Major Hirsch at Ballyhooly, about four miles from Fermoy. Possession of the lands will be taken shortly and arrangements made to start operations as soon as practicable.

Negotiations are pending for the acquisition of other lands nearer to Fermoy containing approximately 320 acres.
