Vol. 69 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages in Kildare.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has received complaints regarding defective chimneys in labourers' cottages recently erected by the County Kildare Board of Health, and, in view of the serious inconvenience caused to tenants by these defects, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I received no such complaints, but from reports of my inspectors on inspections of cottages in Kildare County I am aware that there were defective chimneys in a number of cottages. The attention of the board of health was called to the matter on various occasions and they were requested to instruct their engineers to have the defects remedied.

In view of the Minister's reply, I should like to inform him of the fact that I have sent about half a dozen letters to the Department in connection with this matter and that, in fact, I have received some acknowledgments from his Department of these letters. It is surprising that he should state that he has not received any such complaints, because very specific complaints have been made to his Department and no definite replies have been received to these complaints. Would the Minister make further inquiries into the matter?
