Vol. 71 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Egg and Poultry Exporters.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will open negotiations with the Department of Agriculture of Great Britain with a view to abolishing the regulations requiring Irish egg and poultry exporters to stamp their produce, and of securing for them the right to market their produce in Great Britain on the same terms as in Northern Ireland, where such products do not require to be stamped on export to Great Britain.

Eggs and dead poultry imported into the United Kingdom from all countries without exception are required, by Orders in Council made under the Merchandise Marks Act, 1926, to bear the prescribed marks indicating the country of origin. In view of the unrestricted scope of the Orders, it is most unlikely that the United Kingdom Government would agree to exclude the goods of any particular country from the provisions of the Orders.
