Vol. 71 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Metal Hospital Attendants.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if his attention has been drawn from time to time to the present position of mental hospital attendants who, in order to qualify for full superannuation allowane, agree obliged to continue serving up to the age of 55 years regardless of the number of years of their service; and whether he will consider the desirability of introducing proposals for legislation which would give to mental hospital attendants the right to retire on full superannuation allowancce on the completion of 25 years' service without the qualification as to reaching the age limit.

I have not received any special representations on this matter. I am aware of the statutory conditions for the award of superannuation allowances to attendants in mental hospitals, and I could not agree that there are food grounds for amending legislation of the nature suggested by the Deputy.
