asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total quantity and value of articles (rope, cord, twine, etc.) to which Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 158) Order, 1938, applies, imported during each of the years 1932, 1933, 1937, and the nine months ended 30th September, 1938, and the total amount of customs duties levied from these articles or any of these articles in each year.
Written Answers. - Rope, Cord and Twine Imports.
As the answer in this case consists of a table of figures, I propose, with the Deputy's permission, to circulate it with the Official Report.
Following is the table:—
Imports of rope, cord and twine (excluding binder twine) made of cotton, flax, hemp, ramie, jute, coir, or any like material, or a combination of any two or more of those materials, in the years 1932, 1933, 1937 and in the nine months ended 30th September, 1938.

(a) For the years 1932 and 1933 the figures relate only to cordage, cables, ropes and twine (excluding binder twine) made of hemp or like materials. The duty on these articles was first imposed as from 12th May, 1932.
