Vol. 75 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Concessions to Company in Fish Trade.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that considerable unemployment has already been caused by the granting of certain concessions to a company in the fish trade, and that a further 60 men are now threatened with dismissal: that the company fixes the price of fish, and having supplied their own needs and those of the retail shops which they control, offers fish to the two principal wholesalers at a price at which they could not possibly complete; that the company has dumped large quantities of fresh fish rather than sell to the wholesalers at a competitive price; that the price of all classes of fish has increased since concessions were granted; and, if so, whether he intends to take any action to remedy these matters.

I am not satisfied that the position is as stated by the Deputy and, therefore, the question of taking any action does not arise.
