Vol. 75 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have acquired the turbary bog of Dominick Rogers, situated in Boleysillagh, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon; and, if so, when they propose to divide it amongst the local people who have no turbary at present.

The Land Commission cannot trace any lands in the townland of Boleysillagh as the property of Dominick Rogers, but he appears to be the rated occupier of some 17 acres in the townland of Cross North, which is in the vicinity of Ballaghaderreen. The Land Commission have not acquired these lands and there are no proceedings pending for their acquisition.

Can the Minister say whether it is his intention to acquire turbary in that region?

Mr. Boland

We are waiting for a report from the inspector on the matter.

It is being investigated?

Mr. Boland

Yes.

The Minister is aware that there is a number of people there whose bogs have been cut out, and now they have to travel three or four miles to rented turbary.
