Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in Dublin Building Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can give the figures of unemployment in the building industry in Dublin City and County each month for the years 1938 and 1939.

As the answer contains a number of figures, I propose to circulate it with the Official Report.

The following are the particulars asked for:

Statistics are not available to show by county of residence the number of persons registered as unemployed in the building industry. Following were the numbers normally engaged in the building industry who were on the Live Register at the Dublin Employment Exchange, the Dun Laoghaire Employment Exchange and the Balbriggan branch employment office (the three local offices situated in Dublin County) on the third Monday of each month in the year 1938 and January-April, 1939:

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can give particulars of the amount paid each month in the years 1938 and 1939 in the form of unemployment assistance to unemployed operatives in the building industry in the City and County of Dublin.

The information which the Deputy requests is not available as the accounts of unemployment assistance are not compiled by reference to particular occupations or industries.
