Statistics of domestic production of women's hats in 1937 have been furnished by Order under the Statistics Act, 1926, but cannot be published as they could be identified as relating to an individual business. Statistics of production of women's hats in 1938 are not yet available.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total value of (a) imports and (b) domestic production, in each of the years 1937 and 1938, of marble chippings to which Control of Imports (Quota Order No. 32, 8th period) 1939, refers.

Imports of marble chippings amounted to £102 in the year 1937 and £135 in the year 1938. The particulars available for domestic production have been furnished by Order under the Statistics Act, 1926 and cannot be supplied as their publication would involve the disclosure of the business of individual concerns.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total quantity and value of (a) imports and (b) domestic production of screws, to which Control of Imports (Quota Order No. 38 of 1939) refers.

Statistics of the imports of the descriptions covered by the Quota Order are not available for periods prior to the date of the Order. Statistics are available for the imports of screws, tapered thread of iron and steel and of brass, bronze and gunmetal, liable to duty, but not for such screws, not liable to duty, the imports of which were included with other descriptions such as bolts and nuts. The imports of the screws liable to duty were in the years 1937 and 1938:—

The particulars of the domestic production of the descriptions to which the Quota Order refers are not available as the Census of Industrial Production Schedule does not provide specific headings for these commodities. The production of bolts, nuts and screws in 1937 was 122,815 cwt. valued at £49,770. The corresponding figures for 1938 are not yet available.
