Vol. 76 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Summer Time.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that summer time causes great trouble and financial loss to the farmers, as during the haymaking and harvesting seasons its operation obliges them to commence work before the dew has passed away, and to cease work at a time when, as a result of the day's sun and wind, these crops are in primest condition for handling; whether he is further aware that many authorities have condemned the measure because of its injurious effect on the health of children; and whether, in view of the wide discontent existing among the farming community on this matter, he will take steps to terminate the operation of summer time after this year.

I shall have inquiry made into this matter. In the meantime, however, I am not to be taken as agreeing with the suggestions conveyed in the question.
