Vol. 78 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ashford Claims for Unemployment Benefit.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that 26 men who were employed in the clerk of works department at Ashford, Cong, by the Honourable E. Guinness and who have been unemployed since December, 1938, have applied for but have not yet received unemployment benefit; and if he will take steps to ascertain why unemployment benefit has not been paid to these men.

A number of the men who were in the employment of the Honourable E. Guinness at Ashford, Cong, have claimed unemployment benefit on the termination of their employment and received unemployment benefit. Others applied for and received unemployment assistance. It has not been possible to identify the 26 men referred to in the Deputy's question but if he will let me have their names and addresses, I shall have full enquiries made in each case and communicate the result to him.
