Vol. 78 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the lands of Mr. Malone at Clonmoyle, Rathangan, for afforestation purposes.

The area of plantable land offered in this area is not sufficiently large to warrant the establishment of a new forestry centre and, owing to its location, it cannot be conveniently worked from any existing centre.

Do I understand, therefore, that the Land Commission do not propose to acquire these lands?

That is so.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the delay in dividing the Coffey estate at Ellistown, Rathangan, is causing considerable discontent among local uneconomic holders and landless men, and if he will state when the lands will be divided.

The Land Commission have not so far obtained possession of the Coffey estate at Ellistown as the title has not yet been cleared. It is not possible at present to state when the lands will be divided but there will be no avoidable delay.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, I understood from a previous reply that the Land Commission had actually acquired this holding and that a scheme for its division was being prepared. Is there any hitch in the preparation of that scheme?

The delay at the moment is due to the delay in acquiring a proper title which, of course, rests with the owner.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have yet acquired the Bobbett estate at Kilbelan, Newbridge, record No. S.5601, and, if so, when the lands are likely to be divided.

The Land Commission have acquired an area of 182 acres 3 roods 31 perches in the townland of Kilbelan, County Kildare, from Mr. Patrick J. Bobbett. It is not possible at present to state when the lands will be allotted, as a scheme of division has not yet been approved.
