Vol. 78 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities and Pensions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is now in a position to state when legislation will be introduced to enable local authorities to provide pensions for such of their employees as do not now occupy pensionable positions.

It was hoped that proposals which were under consideration for an amendment of the law relating to the grant of superannuation allowances could have been submitted early in the present year. Legislative proposals of a more pressing nature had to be dealt with first and I cannot at present state when a Superannuation Bill will be introduced.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, will he take the opportunity, in connection with the Local Government Bills which have yet to be introduced, of embodying a section in one of them dealing with the necessity for making this provision?

I will consider the matter.
