Vol. 79 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Mayo Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Colonel Bedington who is the owner of the lands of Ballycurran demesne (formerly Lynch estate) in County Mayo, is anxious to sell, and if the Land Commission will consider the question of acquiring these lands for distribution amongst the small holders in the vicinity.

The Land Commission are not aware that Colonel Bedington is anxious to sell the lands of Ballycurran demesne. They had the lands inspected some years ago and decided to take no action in the matter then, but the question of their acquisition has been noted for reconsideration as soon as circumstances permit.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary make further inquiries, because I have been informed by the local residents that Colonel Bedington, being unable to carry out the compulsory tillage order, has put up this place for sale? My information is definitely that he is not in a position to carry out the compulsory tillage order and wishes to sell.

The Land Commission have no information in regard to that, but we will have inquiries made.
