Vol. 80 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Coal in Cork.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that between September, 1939, and May, 1940, the price of coal in Cork advanced 17/- per ton, while in Dublin over the same period the advance was only 12/- per ton; and, if so, if he will explain the factors which caused this discrepancy.

The greater part of the supplies of coal for the Cork area is received from eastern districts in Great Britain, whilst supplies for Dublin are mainly received from the western districts. The freight charges ruling from these different sources of supply account almost entirely for the difference in the increased prices of coal mentioned in the first part of the question.
