Vol. 81 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurance of Live Stock.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the scheme for the compulsory insurance of live stock exported from Éire to Great Britain does not apply to live stock exported from this country to a British landing place through Six County ports of embarkation, and if he will introduce legislation to remedy this deficiency.

I am aware the position is as stated by the Deputy in the first part of his question. As regards the second part, the Deputy's suggestion is not one that I am prepared to accept, having regard to the practical difficulties involved.

Does the Minister realise that this means the diversion of traffic from its natural route, with a loss of employment to dockers and others in our own ports?

I do not think so.

You do not think so?

I do not think it will, as a matter of fact.
