Vol. 81 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Complaints of Vagrancy.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the enormous increase in the numbers of hawkers, tinkers and vagrants who are using the public roads as camping places and causing great inconvenience and annoyance to rural dwellers, and if he intends taking any steps to deal with this problem.

I am not aware that there is any great increase in the number of hawkers, tinkers and vagrants camping on the roads, but I have called for a report on the matter from the Gárda Síochána. The Gárda Síochána have instructions already to pay particular attention to people who camp on the roads, but when I receive the report I have asked for, I shall consider whether it is necessary or practicable to take any special measures to deal with the problem.
