asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state in respect of the total number of new houses completed by the 31st December, 1939, under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts, 1932-1937, (a) the number, (b) the total all-in cost, (c) the total building cost, and (d) the total amount of this cost which is being borne by the Exchequer, distinguishing between houses to which the terms of the following sections of the Principal Act are applied, viz., Section 6 (1) (a) (i), Section 6 (1) (a) (ii), Section 6 (1) (b).

The following are the particulars:—

Some slight adjustments in the figures may be necessary where costs of houses have been calculated before the entire schemes in which houses have been included were finally completed.

(1) (a) the total number of houses completed by 31st December, 1939, under Section 6 (1) (a) (i) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, was 12,654; (b) the total all-in cost of these houses was £4,735,716; (c) the total building cost of these houses was £4,049,839; and (d) the total amount of the all-in cost which is being borne by the Exchequer is £2,776,284.

(2) (a) the total number of houses completed by 31st December, 1939, under Section 6 (1) (a) (ii) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, was 10,488; (b) the total all-in cost of these houses was £4,693,166; (c) the total building cost of these houses was £3,854,806; and (d) the total amount of the all-in cost which is being borne by the Exchequer is £1,380,825.

(3) (a) the total number of houses completed by 31st December, 1939, under Section 6 (1) (b) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, was 16,087; (b) the total all-in cost of these houses was £4,820,053; (c) the total building cost of these houses was £4,023,868; and (d) the total amount of the all-in cost which is being borne by the Exchequer is £2,800,461.

Note:—The figure 12,654 is 204 less than the corresponding figure given in reply to question of 8th May, 1940, and the figure 10,488 is 204 higher than the corresponding figure given on the same occasion. These alterations are due to final figures becoming available in respect of three schemes.
