Vol. 82 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance Income.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount of the unemployment insurance net contribution income for the year ended 31st December, 1940, and the total estimated full-time employment for the year 1940 deduced therefrom.

The provisional figure for the unemployment insurance net contribution income in the calendar year 1940 is £936,279. Taking the average weekly unemployment insurance contribution as 17.29d., based on the latest available figures, the estimated average number of persons employed in each week of 1940 in occupations insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts was 250,000. The expressions "net contribution income" and "in each week" are used in the same sense as in the memoranda "The Trend of Employment and Unemployment."
