Vol. 82 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Health Insurance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount of the National Health Insurance net contribution income for the year ended 31st December, 1940, and the total estimated full-time employment for the year 1940 deduced therefrom.

The provisional figure for the National Health net contribution income in the calendar year 1940 is £676,414. Taking the average weekly contribution as 7.68d., based on the latest information available, the estimated average number of persons employed in each week of 1940 in occupations insurable under the National Health Insurance Acts was 406,000. The expressions "net contribution income" and "in each week" are used in the same sense as in the memoranda "The Trend of Employment and Unemployment."
