Vol. 82 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Poison in Grain Crops.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the practice among farmers of poisoning their grain crops with a resulting wholesale destruction of rooks, game and wild birds and if, in view of the serious consequences of this practice, he will consider taking steps to control the sale and use of the poisons used for this purpose.

I am aware that some farmers use on their lands poisoned grain for the protection of the sown seed from the depredations of vermin, but I do not consider that farmers should be discouraged from safeguarding their crops in this manner provided, of course, that they act within the law.
