Vol. 82 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Bomb Damage.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when the Dáil will be asked to make the necessary financial provision, referred to in his statement of 5th February, for compensating those who suffered loss or damage through bombing.

The Dáil will be asked to vote the money required for the payment of compensation in respect of injuries to persons and property caused by the dropping of bombs from foreign aircraft and kindred incidents as soon as legislation in connection with the matter has been enacted. I hope to have the Bill ready for introduction soon.

Would the Minister say if that will cover property damaged on sea as well as on land?

I will have to look into that point.

I take it that this covers also consequential loss—that is, goods and so on.

No consequential losses will be included.

I mean that, where houses are damaged, the goods damaged in the houses will be covered?

Property will be covered.
